4th/5th Grade Lesson
- Even Years - Scavenger Hunt Worksheet - This activity takes place the week of November 1st & 2nd, and the classroom has displays of typical decorations and two examples of altars that would be found in Mexico. Students find the answers to the questions on their sheet by looking around the classroom for the brightly colored fact sheets about Dia de los Muertos. (See "scavenger hunt" file below.)

3rd Grade Lesson
- Already Know Class Writing - Students give teacher sentences of things they already know about "Dia de los Muertos." Teacher writes sentences and class creates a paragraph. (See "3schuemann" file below for example.)
- "Pablo Remembers" October 31 pages. Teacher reads part one of book to students, omitting the details on page 21 about the spirits coming for a visit. (See attached pictures of book below.)
- "Dia de los Muertos" Class Reading - Class reads together. (See attached file.)
- "Pablo Remembers" November 1 pages. Teacher reads pages 23-36 to students, omitting the details about the spirits on pages 32 & 35. (See attached pictures of book)
- Travel Channel "Day of the Dead" video - See video on website below.
- Informational Writing - each student writes an information writing piece about "Dia de los Muertos." Students have the option of what they write about, but must include at least 5 facts about the tradition.
- Picture video with music- Teacher shows students real-life pictures of the celebration taking place (see below)
- Sugar Skulls - In art class, students create their own sugar skull to be placed on display alongside their informational writings.

2nd Grade Lesson

- Papel Picado Decorations - each student has the opportunity to create their own tissue paper decoration common in Mexico
- "Dia de los Muertos" book - class reads mini book together (See attachment below)
- Student Copies of book - If students choose, they can have a copy of the mini book.
- Even Years - Vocabulary Scavenger Hunt - Students find the meaning to the words on page 8 of the mini book by using the yellow vocabulary flashcards set up around the classroom.
- Optional Activities - If time allows, students have the option of choices presented below.
